City Manager Rashad Young
Mr. Young joined the City of Dayton in 1994 as a W. S. McIntosh Scholar. Over the next eight-year period with the City, he served as Assistant to the City Manager, Deputy Director for the Department of Information & Technology Services and Acting Assistant City Manager. It was during this time that Mr. Young discovered a passion to serve and began to develop his leadership, managerial, supervisory, budgetary and negotiation skills.
In 2002, Mr. Young accepted the position of Assistant City Manager for the City of Cincinnati where he continued to perform in an exemplary and impressive manner. He carried out his responsibilities with a maturity that quickly established him as an up and coming executive in the field of public service. The Cincinnati Business Journal took notice and selected Mr. Young as one of 40 recipients of the Top 40 Under 40 Award in 2002, ranking him Number 6. Following his tenure in Cincinnati from June of 2002 to March of 2005, Mr. Young returned to his hometown of Dayton as one of Dayton’s Assistant City Managers.
Mr. Young is a member of the National Forum of Black Public Administrators, the International City/County Manager’s Association, and the International Public Management Association for Human Resources. He has served as a board member for the Urban Minority Alcohol/Drug Outreach Program, the National Youth Sports Program, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference Yes to Kids Program and the Dayton Black Cultural Festival. In addition, he is dedicated to the positive development of children and young adults and enjoys being a mentor. Through the National Development Council, Mr. Young was certified as a Housing Development Professional. Mr. Young has a Bachelor of Science, Business Management Degree and a Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of Dayton.
On December 1, 2006, he was sworn-in as Dayton's 16th City Manager.
