Nan Whaley was born and raised in Mooresville, Indiana. Her father, Joe, worked at General Motors Truck and Bus and her mother, Ann, was the town Clerk-Treasurer. Nan moved to Dayton to attend the University of Dayton, and the City of Dayton has been her home ever since.
Nan's career is distinguished by her commitment to public service. Nan Whaley has always been active in her community and she has worked with many civic committees and local groups. She has served as a member of the Montgomery County Board of Elections where she oversaw fair elections for the entire county. Nan served as assistant to Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith from 2001-2005. Nan Whaley is a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, a graduate of Leadership Miami Valley, a member of Women in Leadership and lives in the Five Oaks Neighborhood.
In addition, Nan has been committed to the political process in local, state and national elections. While in college, she was instrumental in reorganizing the College Democrats and later served as Ohio Chair of the College Democrats. She has served as Campaign Manager for State Senator Tom Robert's 2002 election. She also served as Co-chair of the John Kerry campaign for Montgomery County and is a two time delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 2000 and 2004.
Nan was elected to the Dayton City Commission in 2005 and was sworn in on January 2, 2006. In addition to serving as Commissioner, she attends Wright State University, where she is earning a Master's Degree in Public Administration.
