The Civil Service Board's mission is to provide the best candidates for employment and promotion within the City of Dayton.
We will accurately and efficiently enforce the primary goals and objectives set forth by the City of Dayton Charter and the Civil Service Board, as well as applicable elements of Collective Bargaining Agreements, State of Ohio Statutes and the United States Code.
We are pleased to serve your needs as related to applying for employment with the City of Dayton. The Civil Service Board has the authority to see that all employees in the classified service of the City are appointed solely on the basis of merit and fitness.
With the exception of elected officials, the City Manager, Clerk of Commission, department directors, division heads and certain deputies, professionals and secretaries, all employees are in the classified service.
Civil Service is undergoing many major changes, especially in the areas of technology, Civil Service rules and regulations, testing administration, recruitment and more, all designed to serve you better.
Rules & Regulations
The Civil Service Board will review amendments to the following Civil Service Rules and Regulations at its October 10, 2016 board meeting. Rule 8 – Eligible Lists and Certifications, Section 5 – Removal From Eligible List only. The Board will consider the adoption of these amendments at a later Board Meeting.
